SLM-Selective Laser Melting Additive Manufacturing
Metal 3D printing is an additive manufacturing process and is widely used to make metal parts. Older manufacturing methods were dependent on extensive machining. Cutting, drilling, shaping, and many other operations were less precise and time-consuming. Metal 3D printing helps us create precision parts and products quickly.
Are you looking for a custom metal 3D printing service? If so, we're a perfect match. At Multi-Wins, we use a wide range of metals and make parts using 3D printing. We have 40+ metal printers, including EOS, BLT etc. Our manufacturing process follows international standards, ensuring top-notch quality. Being in China allows us to enjoy lower labor costs and offer metal 3D printing at affordable pricing.
What is Metal 3D Printing? How Does It Work?
Metal 3D printing is an advanced manufacturing process. It uses powdered metal or wires and makes metallic parts with precision. It involves making 3D parts or products layer by layer by melting the powdered metal. In this method, high-end printers are used, which emit laser or electron beams.
These lasers or electron beams have high energy and can melt the metal powder. First of all, the CAD design is made, which includes the shape or design of the part you want. This CAD design then undergoes slicing software. It slices the CAD design and produces small, thin layers for the metal 3D printer to work.
The materials used in this additive manufacturing are metals. Those can be stainless steel, titanium, aluminum, or brass. These materials are first changed into powder. This powder material is used by the printers, who spread it on the building platform. Once done, the printers emit laser or electron beams powered strategically.
The lasers will only touch and melt the powder as per the computerized instructions (design). Once the powder solidifies, the printers add another layer of powder. This new layer undergoes melting strategically. In this way, high-quality and precision 3D parts are made. Some machines use powder, while others use metal wires for their work.

Metal 3D Printing Material Options
At Multi-Wins, we use a wide range of materials in metal 3D printing. These materials are in the form of powder or wires. As you know, each material has its unique properties. We analyze properties of each material before selecting to make 3d printed metal parts. The common materials we use are as follows:
- Titanium
- Aluminum
- Tool Steels
- Nickel Alloys
- Stainless Steel
- Cobalt-Chrome
We prefer using stainless steel material for parts that remain in harsh conditions. This material has higher chromium content. Due to this, stainless steel is resistant to corrosion. Parts made with these materials are long-lasting, even if used in moist or salty conditions.
Titanium is another premium material that is very lightweight. So lightweight parts are made of this titanium material. When it comes to making heat-resistant parts, our team chooses nickel alloys.

Why Choose Metal 3D Printing?
Metal 3D printing is a bit different than usual 3D printing techniques. It involves the use of powder materials. This powder then undergoes melting and solidification, and forms a complete layer. In this way, printers keep making layers one over another and make the final parts. This complex process confuses people about its value.
But worry not! Here is a glimpse of what this metal 3D printing can deliver:
Flexibility
Metal 3D printing is highly flexible. It can help create 3D parts of very complex shapes and geometries. Such parts require precision, which is impossible to achieve with conventional methods.
Design Freedom
One of the primary reasons for the popularity of this process is design freedom. You can make any complex shape in CAD software. Metal 3D printing will bring your complex-shaped model (design) into reality.
Fast Production
Metal 3D printing is a speedy manufacturing process. Once you have a CAD model, you can make the final product in moments. This is even more useful when you need to make metallic parts in bulk.
Durable Parts
This process can create very robust parts with a density of up to 99.9%. It means that these 3D metal parts can withstand stress with ease. This makes metal 3D printing ideal for making parts for the aerospace and automotive sectors.
Cost Effectiveness
Traditional manufacturing processes are very costly and consume more time. In contrast, metal 3D printing offers an excellent value proposition with cost-effectiveness. You'll get high-quality 3D printed metal parts at a low price.
Reduced Waste
Material waste is minimal in metal 3D printing. Computerized systems control the printers used in these machines. So, it puts powder, melts, and adds layers with perfection. This reduces the chances of material waste.
Applications of Metal 3D Printing
Those days are gone when manufacturing was dependent on machining. The modern industries are shifting towards metal 3D printing for metallic parts. What makes this process stand out is its fast speed, excellent precision, and flexibility. Many industries have already adopted this method as their primary production process.
Here is the table showing the applications of metal 3D printing:
| Industry | Applications |
|---|---|
| Aerospace & Defense | Turbine blades, engine brackets, cooling channels |
| Automotive | Prototypes, engine parts, heat exchangers |
| Medical & Healthcare | Implants, dental crowns, surgical tools |
| Tooling & Manufacturing | Molds, dies, spare parts |
| Jewelry & Art | Custom jewelry, ornaments, decorative pieces |
| Energy & Power | Turbine components, heat exchangers, pump parts |
| Consumer Products | Electronics casings, sports gear, luxury items |
Are you confused about whether metal 3D printing is suitable for you? You're not alone. There are different types of 3D printing. So laymen can get confused when it comes to selection. I recommend contacting our expert team for the best solution. Our team will analyze requirements and suggest whether you should opt for metal 3D printing or any other method.
